And the Oscar for best dress goes to…
Eevee’s Erin Hushon discusses fashion and the Oscars, and gives us her verdict on the evening’s finest frocks…
The Academy Awards (or as it’s better known, the Oscars), is a popular event globally. But for me personally, it’s less about who wins and who loses, and more about the beautiful dresses that get showcased down the red carpet and at the spectacular after parties.
This year’s dresses have shown how the spring pastel trends have been converted onto the red carpet, with the main show of this trend being the candy floss pinks – even Lady Gaga went for a subtle pink gown. However, as usual, the beautiful black dresses have also been on show and looking as elegant as ever.
With the best dressed lists being released, I decided to have a look to see if I agreed with forbes.com and their opinions. Forbes decided that the best-dressed woman of the night was Lupita Nyong’o. ‘The 12 Years A Slave actress wore a custom pleated, baby blue Prada gown that rendered her a modern Grecian goddess. She accessorized it with a thin headband that gave her the aura of a princess.’
The site also loved Hollywood glamazon, ‘Kate Hudson in a glitzy caped number from Versace.’ I definitely agreed with these two choices. Both gowns suited the girls perfectly, were only slightly daring and were pulled off with elegance.
Forbes also had this opinion of ‘elegance, without risk’ being shown on the red carpet – particularly with stars like Cate Blanchett (nude Giorgio Armani with beading and pailettes), Jessica Biel (silvery blush from Chanel Couture), Sandra Bullock (strapless navy Alexander McQueen gown with soft drapes to one side), and Jennifer Lawrence (in a vibrant red Dior gown with flaps on the waist).
However, due to not being in many films recently, I believe Jenna Dewan-Tatum’s beautiful Reem Acra gown has been pushed into the shadows. The cream colour suits her skin tone and the instant glamour of sparkle makes the dress a perfect red carpet decision, as well as her husband arm accessory, Channing Tatum.
With all the awards handed out, the gowns judged by the critics and the award season finished, we will have to wait till the end of the year to see the Red Carpet Glamour on our screens again.
