Single for Valentine’s Day? Don’t worry, help is here. Alice Pinkard tells all you ladies why being a singleton is actually kind of awesome…

Valentine’s Day is looming and for most couples it will be the day of the year to get ‘loved up’. However for those of you singletons who can’t face seeing another cringy card, here are some tips to help make your day just as special.

1. Dates with your girlfriends

Going out with friends is guaranteed to be a better time than sat at home being ‘lovey dovey’. Get dressed up and paint the town red! Alternatively, grab a bag of popcorn and a film, (trying to avoid rom-coms) and curl up with your besties.

 2. Forget the ex

No one wants to hear you moaning about who you could have been spending Valentines with – it’s a massive bore. Look to the future and surround yourself with the people who make you happy.

3. No drunken phone calls!

We’ve all been there. Its 3am in the morning and you can think of nothing better to do than call an ex. STOP RIGHT THERE!! You’ll only regret it in the morning, so save yourself the embarrassment and leave your phone at home.

4. Stuff your face with ice cream

Every girl knows the way to mend a broken heart is with Ben and Jerry’s. So eat as much as you can and you’ll be feeling better in no time!

5. Embrace being independent

Valentine’s is one day of the year you might be feeling a little bit rubbish – but here’s the thing, you really shouldn’t! Loads of people are in the same position as you and you should embrace the fact you are on your own as an independent woman. Not having a man means lots of girly nights out, not having to shave your legs and being able to flirt with anyone you want. Yeah, being single is kinda awesome!
