Battle of the bags: Eevee’s Erin Hushon gives you the low down on River Island’s latest collection of handbags, and explains why you need to be sporting more than just a hot man on your arm this season…

River Island have previously won multiple awards for their high-end bags, however, a couple of years ago there was a dip in the popularity -for once the brand weren’t on top of everyone’s list when they wanted a new high street handbag.
Brands such as Topshop, New Look and Miss Selfridge were improving and leaving River Island behind. Fortunately, this dip wasn’t going to last for long. From the end of 2012 onwards, the improvements in the department have been huge, and the high street clothing chain are once again winning awards – such as the Company fashion award in 2012!
The bags and purses are not only well liked due to the name that is on them, but also because of their durability and the fact that they stick to classic shapes but incorporate modern patterns. There is always a plain black option for those who want to be traditional and extreme patterns and colours for those who want to push the boundaries with a statement piece.

River Island Bag Giveaway 2

Working in River Island Accessories Boutique in Nottingham’s Victoria Centre, I get to see first hand how the bags improve every season, and with the new stock starting to arrive after the manic Christmas sales, I believe that this season is one of the best so far. The use of beige and cream against the fluorescent brights, helps represent the season we are moving into. The darker colours – which were prevalent at the start of the Winter season – have now given way to the brights of Spring and Summer.
Ranging from £1 tote bags to the £120 black leather fringed saddle bag, there is an option for every individual at any age. This variety has also been a huge factor in the rise of the department, allowing younger girls to have their first handbag whilst still catering to their mothers, who can afford the higher priced products.
I recommend a trip to River Island. After all,  a girl can never have too many handbags!
